The SpiralUp Method
For anyone who knows that healing isn't linear, but is also desperate to figure out what shape healing is because you don't want to give up but feel like you've tried everything...
“Healing has never happened in a straight line for a prolonged period of time, just by the very nature of what it requires. It’s not a ladder, or a staircase you climb once and arrive at the top forever changed and unable to be touched by the same traumas again. Instead, it’s a journey to understanding what you’re made of, how you specifically survive the worst this life has to throw at you, and the structure that either sets you free or encases you in the dark. The shape is a conical helix, by the way… and it’s one I’ve named “The Helix of Healing” because the only way out is UP.”
- Dee Baker
ORIGIN AND DISTINCTION
In 1991, Laura Davis wrote one paragraph about healing being a spiral. She described the process of healing as nonlinear, and as one that survivors moved through the stages of more than once, each time with slightly more capacity than the last.
That observation was accurate AF to me, and might be to you too, which is why it’s been quoted widely in trauma recovery spaces for over three decades since.
The thing is, while what Laura said explained something anyone healing from something traumatic - from something that very few other people on this planet have survived well enough to understand - deeply understands to be true, there were no next steps that offered any clear guidance of how to obtain this elusive thing called healing that everyone kept talking about… and certainly none that could guarantee you made any forward progress. Why? Well, a metaphor, no matter how profound, isn’t a framework or a method.
So that’s what this book aims to fix.
What you’re about to read might be the single healing framework / method that finally makes your ongoing healing so transformative that you’ll never be able to un-see it again.
I call it “The Spiral UP Method” and it takes the truth embedded in Laura’s popular observation - that healing is nonlinear, recursive, and cumulative - and builds a complete healing method around it. In it we name the specific structure of “The Helix of Healing”, map your spiral down, show you how to get back up, identify the six doors that determine whether you make progress or stay stuck and attach them to a specific grief-processing framework, then - as if that weren’t enough it catalogs the coping tools you’ll need in order to move forward at each level.
If you keep reading, I’m about to teach you how to create your very own personal map back to the best version of you.
