Pride Month Drawings
I have spent Pride month over on Instagram posting all the Pride related drawings I’ve done over the years. I think in the future it could be fun to do prompts, similar to inktober, but for Pride.
It’s been a tough few years for the LGBTQIA+ community, and I felt it was important to be visible—not just by posting one Pride related drawing, but to fill the entire month with Pride drawings.
There’s been a growing hatred toward our community. I’ve fled my former country in the US to live with friends in Canada. I’ve watched and grieved as the US became worse and worse. My former country labeled us terrorists because we exist.
Sometimes I see people complain about the need for a Pride month. They claim we’re already equal. But my former country claims transgender ideology is terrorism. I’m illegal in over 60 countries. I’ve been shoved into a wall because I’m gay. I’ve been told I should be sh0t, I’ve been told I’m not worth the ground holding me up, and things that are even worse. We are not equal, and there’s still a long way to go.
Sometimes I get mired down in the frustration and anger of it all. I’m not an unhappy person, I’m not an angry person, but in the face of such hatred, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed, hopeless, and angry.
But there are so many people that support us. There may be a loud group that wants to rip us apart, but there is an equally fierce group that would stand up for us.
I have so many family and friends that support me. I truly can say I wouldn’t be the person I am today without all of the amazing friends I’ve been lucky enough to know over the years. I don’t know how my life would have turned out if it weren’t for all of their support over the years and their constant presence in my life. But with all of those wonderful people in my life I know that I’m someone who finds joy in the simpleness of every day. I am in awe of nature every time I go for a walk, I love expressing all the things I need to say in my art and drawing, I get excited about talking with all the people I love.
One of my best friends, Dee, started this community to help people. She’s an incredible person and an amazing ally. And I know there is power in a community that supports each other. I’ve seen it first hand with all of the amazing friends in my life.
Below are some of the Pride drawings I posted throughout the month of June. Some of them are more whimsical, some are more serious. They cover the full gambit of emotions I’ve felt over the past couple of years.

Love will win eventually. Until then, my art, my existence, is an act of rebellion. And I aim to misbehave.
Chris
