I've always thought luna moths are tragically beautiful. They're stunning and magical, and they're here so briefly. It amazes me how much of an impact they make in such a short life.
Adult luna moths live only about a week. They don't even have mouths. They survive on the energy they stored as caterpillars, and their whole adult life is devoted to the next generation.
Their pale green wings with long trailing tails may even help them escape bats, spinning and confusing their echolocation.
Not everything is measured by how long it lasts. Some lives are short and still deeply meaningful.
Some beauty is fleeting and still worth everything.
Stay wild,
Chris
