And What We Can Learn From Them
Dingoes are Australia’s wild dogs, and they’re highly social, living in packs with complex hierarchies and cooperative behaviors.
They hunt together, raise pups communally, and communicate through howls, barks, and body language.
Within a pack, there’s usually a dominant breeding pair, but all members help care for the young, bringing food and teaching them to hunt.
Dingoes are also apex predators, keeping populations of kangaroos and other herbivores in check, which prevents overgrazing and supports the health of the landscape.
They’ve been vilified and persecuted, but they’re an essential part of Australia’s ecosystems. Misunderstood doesn’t mean harmful. Sometimes the things people fear are the things holding everything together.
